Osaka To List Commodity ETFs

Japan’s Osaka Securties Exchange is set to expand its innovtive niche in Japan’s ETF market by allowing the listing of funds that invest directly in commodity futures. At present only two commodity ETFs are traded in Japan, one that tracks commodity linked bonds and another that invests directly in gold bullion.

The OSE currently lists 18 ETFs, several of which follow indices not tradeable in the Untied States, such as the FTSE/JSE 40 (1323) and the SSE 50 (1309).

Reuters reports that the OSE will begin allowing applications in July. It is expected that a crude oil ETF will be among the first to be listed.
